Steve Vibronics Top Ten
I was really happy that Steve agreed to do a Top Ten list for us, having always enjoyed Vibronics records and recently really enjoying his fantastic Life In Dub podcast. Over to Steve..
"My Roots Reggae rundown would have to include some of these tracks - mostly evergreen classics from the Sound System scene !
'Babylon Is A Trap' - Dub Judah
Dub Judah writing the blueprint for UK dub with colossal bass line, hypnotic beat & 100% on point timeless lyrics.
'Jah Will Provide' - Hugh Mundell
My fave from the hard hitting 'Africa Must Be Free by 1983' LP. This one is the deepest and most personal - sublime.
'One Head' - Twinkle Brothers
All the elements 100% lyrics, melodies & riddim - classic UK style production. Still amazing all these years later.
'Prowling Lion' - The Disciples
Russ D writing the rule book for 4am Sound System anthems. Pure digital delights, how can this be so old & still sound so now?
'His Foundation' - Prince David / Moa Anbessa
Proving that Roots Reggae music is beyond borders as the no. 1 Italian crew provide this slab of heavyweight business. I can't play in Italy ever without dropping this dub bomb.
'Searching For Jah' - Michael Prophet / Vibronics
Bad to include one of my productions? I hope not as this one is totally about the vocal. The Jamaican legend proving his versatlity by owning this UK Dub beat fully.
'Jah Protection" - Nishka / Alpha & Omega
This is UK taking JA music and making it ultra deep & heavy concrete style - amazing considering this crew are from deepest Devon ! It's a mesmerising track, even after 30+ year.
