Gimmie Indie Rock!!

Oi! From Reckless Records!!

Incredibly busy week. We all had loads of gigs, which all went well, and were pretty mad to be honest. But we still found time to smash out loads of records and cds. The buying took a turn for the better this week (not that it was bad!); some really killer stuff came in. Also – it was amazing to see just how quickly some of the new bits we put out last week flew out. The Freakbeat 45s, the Rare Reggae, all the Blue Note titles, the rare Jungle, Top Dollar Psych LPs – all went in a matter of days. Talking of Freakbeat – this blog was written to the zoned out sounds of The Eyes.

First thing Monday morning a fairly regular seller brought in some proper Class A bags of Records:
1) Terry Riley
2) Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, The Boys Next Door, The Birthday Party, Rowland Howard etc. About 20 record from this lot.
3) Kraftwerk (they were so nice they lasted about 15 minutes in the racks).
4) Suicide
5) The Real Kids
6) Billy Childish, Thee Headcoats, Buff Medways, The Masonics etc (Again about 20 titles!)
7) Dinosaur JR (load of LPs and 12″s)
8) Pavement (four LPs)
And some other bits and bobs – all of the same quality. Absolutely killer pile of records, most of these went out as soon as I could get them out – and they won’t last long!).

Then one of our friends from Rough Trade brought in a nice pile of Thrash Metal and Shoegaze – wild combination! So there were some super nice Slowdive 12″s, Metallica LPs, Exciter LP. Headbanging time!

If all this sounds a bit too modern then this should get you more excited. About 30 super nice 60s EPs came in. All front laminate, flipback – you know the score. Rare ones from The Hollies, The Pretty Things, The Who. No regular pop titles.

Then as we progress a little bit further – we had some great late 60s through to 70s LPs in this week too. No boring run-of-the-mill titles though. Proper decent original hard copies of Miles Davis, Cream, Jimi Hendrix, The Rolling Stones. Psychedelic, but tooled up.

We had another seller (who was wearing a killer Pungent Stench shirt) bring in a really nice pile of Psychedelic reissue LPs – loads of Shadocks titles, Linda Perhaps, Instant Orange, Brian Eno, Grateful Dead. Few funky 70s SSW titles too.

Eddie kept himself busy with loads of UK Steppers titles that we had from a collection ages ago – Iration Steppers, Jah Shaka, ABA-Shanti etc. Large pile of Sugar Minott LPs and 12″s also came in this week. Some super nice JA originals. All really clean. A few rare 60s and 70s titles came in this week (Wailing Souls, Rod Taylor, The Viceroys). Loads of rare reggae went out this week – and we have lots of collections on the horizon.

Loads of Disco and Disco Edits also came in this week. I only had a little chance to look at them but lots of standard but clean Disco classics: Change, Giorgio Moroder, Skyy, Al Hudson. As well as some rarer Edits. Edits are kind of hard to sell from a Second Hand shop – but we do try.

A super regular seller (everyday) brought in some decent UK Hip Hop this week (rare Task Force, Braintax) and a load of V Records Drum N Bass (Roni Size, DJ Die etc). Wonder if he is from Bristol?

Some more gnarly Jungle and Drum n Bass came in this week – Bad Influence, Source Direct, Mirage, Aquarius, Photek, Congo Natty). Super clean. Loads more still in our storage, its just finding the time to get to it.

We are still putting out records from the huge collection I bought last month. More Avant Garde titles, Jazz, Deep House, Rare Techno. Plus some nice 90s Rap – Boogie Down Productions, Snoop Dogg, Beastie Boys.

Loads of nice Drag City titles came in this week – Joanna Newsom, Smog, Palace. All unplayed.

For some reason we had a load of Jazzman titles come in this week – all from different people. This included a lot of Out Of Print material – including the Brief Encounter numbered reissue. Lots of Strut titles this week – so tonnes of Afrobeat, Highlife, Soul and Jazz. All brand new.

Al was bamming out the 45s this week – lots of rare 60s, a very rare Soul 45 from Arthur Conley, more Ghostbox, New Wave – and loads of Punk.

Loads of nice CDs have gone out this week – plenty of classic rock titles, ECM Jazz, Reggae, Death Metal. Talking of CDs – don’t forget we have all of the new Reckless Records titles in right now – including the new Brainiac Five and The Green Ray.

We have a few large collections coming up this week. One is a massive Jazz collection with plenty of Blue Note titles. Talking of which a few nice Jazz LPs came in this week: Tubby Hayes, Mike Westbrook, Thelonius Monk – all UK Originals.

Waiting on several Top Tens at the moment, so one will be added on as soon I get one! Cheers!!!
